Gamescom 2022 – Great comeback with a big wave

In 2022, Gamescom, the world’s largest trade fair for interactive entertainment will finally be back on site in Cologne, Germany.

From 24th to 28th August 2022, Gamescom 2022 will take place at the Cologne Exhibition Centre in a hydrid in-person simultaneously online format, unveiling the most exciting innovations and cutting-edge gaming announcements. Visitors will have the opportunity to experience a wide range of action-adventure, strategy, RPG, sports, simulation and VR/AR games in different categories. In addition to this, the highly anticipated return to Cologne for game developers and publishers will be back with a variety of events such as master lectures, seminars and roundtables. Gamescom will also explore gaming technology beyond its entertainment value and will delve into the feasibility of its applications in digital learning, smart technology, healthcare, eco-friendly lifestyles and more. At the same time, the world’s leading latest game software, information software and hardware equipment, merchandise and game accessories will be exhibited.

It is worth noting that this year’s event will promote the start of the theme ” Gamescom goes green: Taking responsibility for climate action together”. The organizers of Gamescom hope that Gamescom, as the world’s largest game event, can arouse more visitors, developers, service providers, exhibition and event organizers to the concept and recognition of environmental and climate protection with greater charm, hoping that by reducing and avoiding carbon dioxide emissions and long-term climate neutrality through carbon offsets in the short term.

Although some large-scale exhibitors at Gamescom in previous years, such as Activision Blizzard (CoD Modern Warfare 2, Diablo 4),,Nintendo (Zelda BotW2, Splatoon 3),Sony (God of War Ragnarök, PSVR 2),Electronic Arts (FIFA 23),CD Projekt (The Witcher, Cyberpunk 2077), etc., have decided to cancel their participation plans for this year. But so far, more than 550 companies have signed up to participate in this exhibition. Four of these companies are making their gamescome debut: Krafton (PUBG developer and publisher), Level Infinite (Tencent’s new international distribution brand), HoYoverse (Mihayou’s international brand, Genshin Impact developer), and Humble Games (indie publisher) . According to the official report introduction, this year’s exhibition area, commodity area, event area and other major areas will be larger and more diverse than before.

As Felix Falk, Managing Director of game – Association of the German Games Industry, said: “Delayed game developments, increased costs and uncertainties when it comes to international travel are just three reasons why some games companies cannot be represented in Cologne again this year. But that doesn’t change the fact that gamescom will once again be an absolute highlight and that visitors will have an unforgettable experience.”
